It is our practice at TK to do as much as is reasonably possible, financially and scientifically, to assure the quality and authenticity of the artifacts offered by our company. Obviously, because of commercial considerations, time constraints and technical limitations, not all artifacts can be subjected to all the examinations. Even without complete technical analysis of each and every piece, however, a professional inspection by our experienced staff, with different fields of expertise, is conducted on virtually all pieces before they are offered for sale. TK is fortunate to have the significant asset of a full time staff of restorers, conservators, scientists and researchers. However, here at this site we hope to provide the interested public, scholars and dealers with a basic understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of several analytical techniques, as applied to the study of antiquities. The “status quo” in the antiquities profession is rather lacking in scientific authentication efforts and procedures, and it is our sincere hope that this synopsis of several important testing methods will assist both individuals and dealers to pursue a mutually beneficial relationship between art and science.
