Description: In general, sedan chairs were used by officials or members of the gentry who were accompanied by their servants during a journey. Servants put the document case in place before departure, and removed it upon arrival. Inside the traditional document box are two small, lidded compartments, one at each end, and a long shallow tray that fits over the central section.
